Alnwick is an historic market town with cobbled streets, local independent traders and a so much to see and do.
Within a 5 minute stroll from The Garden you will find yourselves amongst shops, restaurants, coffee shops and galleries all operated by local, independent traders. But it’s not all just eating and shopping…..
- Alnwick is home to Barter Books, the largest second-hand book shop in the UK located in a Victorian Railway station, originally opened in 1887. It was here that in 2000, an original WW2 “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster was discovered which has since turned into an International design phenomenon.
- The Bailiffgate Museum is a peoples museum, showcasing the vast history of Alnwick and it’s surrounding villages throughout the ages. It has been recognised as one of the 25 best places in the country for early years children to visit and there are plenty of dressing up clothes, hands on activities and quirky stories to capture kid’s (and big kids!) imaginations.
- Alnwick has also hosted a monthly farmer’s market for hundreds of years and still boasts a variety of local traders selling everything from cakes to candles and pottery to pies.
With so much to see and do, Alnwick is a hugely popular destination for visitors from both near and far.
