Sometimes it can be difficult to know what employers are looking for when you are applying for jobs.
To make it a little easier we’ve included some guidance that works for us below.
If we have asked for a CV and Covering Letter, the CV should be no more than two sides of A4 and the Covering Letter no more than one side. You don’t need to worry about formatting it as an actual letter with addresses though.
If we have asked for an Application Form, we don’t have a restriction on how long or short it should be.
For a lot of our jobs we will include a Personal Specification in the Job Description. This will list the skills, experience and sometimes qualifications the ideal candidate should have. How you meet the criteria of this list is what we would like you to demonstrate in your application, whether it is through a CV / Covering Letter or Application Form. How you do this is up to you.
Some of our other jobs won’t have this list included. For a lot of our visitor facing roles we want to hear from people that are enthusiastic, hardworking and passionate about making sure our visitors have the best possible experience while they are at The Alnwick Garden. If you can include that on any CV or Application Form you’ll stand a good chance of getting to the interview stage.
If we have any different ways we want you to apply, like with a video, or completing a task we’ll make it really clear what we’re looking for in the job advertisement and in the Job Description.
Good luck with your application.
