The Pavilion and Visitors Centre
About The Feature
The Visitor Centre and Pavilion will provide a theatrical entrance to The Garden and serve as an admission point for The Garden. The new building is built against the backdrop of the 18th century wall and on the site of the original 19th century pavilion of which only the base remains. The building will reflect the original pavilion glass house but with a modern design using the latest materials and environmentally advanced services and installations.
The Visitor Centre will provide a check in and information point for visitors. Upon entry, guests will stand in the original courtyard surrounded by an innovative and contemporary steel barrel vaulted structure.
The Visitor Centre sits just outside the Walled Garden and is inextricably linked through design to the Pavilion within the Walled Garden.
These will provide multi-functional space for exhibitions, conferences, learning activities, interpretation and events. It will also provide a restaurant for visitors to The Garden.
The Courtyard will be used throughout the year for exhibitions, performances and concerts. There will also be a small coffee bar, along with a gift and garden shop selling a range gifts and plant, including the Alnwick Castle Rose.
The Pavilion and Visitor Centre will include:
Admissions area
Gift and garden shop
Space for exhibitions and performances
Visitor interpretation area where visitors can learn about the historical and geographical context of The Garden.
Ground level terraces, with views of both the Walled Garden and the Capability Brown landscape.
Two education rooms
A learning area where visitors can find out more about The Garden and the North East.
A 350 square metre multi-functional area for lectures, conferences, concerts and weddings, with its own private garden.
A visitor restaurant overlooking the Cascade

Visitor Centre.
We are currently seeking funding for this garden but hope to be able to announce a start date and anticipated completion date soon. Keep checking our news page for development information.
