In Bloom, December
In Bloom This Month
In the Ornamental Garden there is a red and orange glow from remaining fruits on the main crab apple plantings. The tall winter cherry autumnalis `Rosea` and a bush specimen of `The Bride` are blooming merrily. Emergence of the winter hellebores provides a reminder that we've just gone full circle and amazingly there are still a few roses in bloom.
Tips For Your Garden
From Our Gardening Team
What better way to escape the preparations for Christmas than a quiet hour or two with a seed catalogue? A pleasant diversion for gardeners tired of the same old festive repeats on television.
Its time to get crafty for Christmas - prune your holly and make wreathes and decorations, a bunch of holly tied with a simple ribbon offers a contemporary minimalist look to the old favourite.
Whilst you have the old secateurs out prune vines and hybrid tea roses and cut back pelargoniums. If you're preparing for the festive over-indulgences with a spot of gardening as exercise, now is the time to dig over your annual borders. This activity seems to work muscles you didn't realise you had!
Remember to ventilate your plant frames, cloches and greenhouse and check the protective material you have used on your tender plants. |
