| Why legacies are vital to us |
|

| Being able to plan ahead with confidence makes such a difference. Knowing we have sufficient funds in place means that we can plan long term projects that will have a lasting impact. |

| The Alnwick Garden Trust has a policy to maximise accessibility to the Garden, in line with its charitable objects. Therefore entry costs are kept low and we cannot generate sufficient income to complete the development. |

| But we can not do it without your support. The Alnwick Garden Trust is dedicated to enabling opportunities that improve the lives of others by offering training and employment opportunities, unique experiences and educational activities. So a gift in your will could be one of the greatest gifts you ever leave. |

| A gift in your will to The Alnwick Garden Trust will have a lasting and direct impact on our work for many years to come. To arrange a legacy is straightforward and inexpensive. This leaflet will explain how to do it, and how we can show our gratitude for your bequest. |

| Making a will |
| We recommend that you use a solicitor. The cost of using a solicitor may be less than you think, depending on the length and complexity of the will. Your solicitor will make sure that the wording of your will is precise and clear. This will ensure that your money and property really do reach to people and charities that you wish to benefit. |

| Leaving a Legacy |
Remember that all legacies provided to The Alnwick Garden Trust are free from inheritance tax, so your family may have less tax to pay.
To include The Alnwick Garden Trust in your will; all you have to write in your will is;
"I would like to give the sum of £…./ x&% of the residue of my estate to The Alnwick Garden Trust, Denwick Lane, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 1YU, Registered Charity number 1095435, for its general purposes."
If you wish to benefit a particular project or activity, add the following statement: "with the request that it is used for the purposes of ……….(e.g. education)."
Finally, add;"I further direct that the receipt of the person who professes to be the Treasurer of The Trust , shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy." |

| Changing an existing will |
| It is also easy to alter an existing will to include a gift to The Alnwick Garden Trust. Simply complete the form ‘Change to an Existing Will’ at the end of this leaflet and send it to you solicitor and please let us know of your intention (see below). |
