Fashion lovers in search of something a bit special headed to The Alnwick Garden on Sunday 31st January, where the attraction hosted a clothes swapping event with a twist. The Alnwick Garden called on a host of North East celebrities to donate items of clothing from their wardrobe, which were raffled off for the nominated charity SMILE. Celebrities who donated personal items for Swish in The Garden event include TV presenter Jayne Middlemiss, Newcastle United vice-captain Alan Smith and actress Donna Air. Comedian Ross Noble and athletics legend Brendan Foster CBE both donated merchandise to the event.

The clothes swap at The Alnwick Garden was coordinated by Daisy Green events as part of The Garden’s Inspire Northumberland fashion exhibition, which is running until February 19th 2010. The event was a way for fashion-followers and treasure-seekers to find a special item or vintage gem for free, by swapping their unwanted clothes.

Christian Perdrier, Chief Executive of The Alnwick Garden, said: “Swish in The Garden is a fantastic way to save money, help the environment and refresh your wardrobe while helping a very worthy cause.

“The celebrities who have donated items of clothing have created a really special event that we hope will be very popular. This is a chance for fashionistas and fun seekers across the North East to come and enjoy a great day out and I’m sure the handful of lucky swappers who walk away with a celebrity item will be left with an extra special memory.”

Nicola Alexander, daisy green events: “I thought the first Swish in the Gardens was a great success. Hundreds of items of clothing were swapped on the day, breathing new life into them and preventing them from going into landfill. It was as pleasure to see some of our regular swappers come to The Alnwick Garden for the first time and I know that it was really well received by all who took part in it.”

‘Swishing’ is an ideal way to pick up a fashion or vintage treasure. Jill Kirkham, owner of Pin-Up Bespoke attended the event to show attendees how to customise the clothes that they have chosen from the swap. With many years’ experience in fashion and headwear, Jill was on hand to answer queries and give fashion advice.
